Kawaji Toshiyoshi, the father of the Japanese police force, receives a sake cup from the emperor after defeating the Satsuma Rebellion. At that time, it was customary for the maid to serve the sake (instead of the emperor himself) to the guest, then the guest to transfer it to another cup for drinking.
