To celebrate the entrance of Emperor Meiji to Edo Castle, the Meiji government served 2563 barrels of sake throughout the city of Tokyo. It is said that the delighted citizens celebrated excitedly as if at a festival, yelling phrases such as “hurray to celestial sake”.
