Bijin-ga Poster (Hakushika)

A poster for exporting sake by Tatsuuma-Honke Brewing Co. Ltd., the brewer of “Hakushika”. The names of companies that distribute “Hakushika” in San Francisco and Los Angeles are also listed. In the United States, prohibition, or the ban on manufacturing, sales and transportation of alcoholic beverages, was enforced from 1920 to 1933, but as soon as it was abolished, sake export to the US started. The poster written in English conveys the efforts of sake brewers to promote sales overseas.
