Kikumasamune Taru Sake

Original Provider: Kikumasamune Shuzo

Until the beginning of the 20th century, Japanese sake was packed and distributed in wooden barrels. Such sake carried a faint aroma of their barrels, and barrel sake, or “taru sake”, is still loved today – it is the standard sake served in soba restaurants in Tokyo, as well as being a popular choice during ceremonies such as the ‘Kagami Biraki’. This video shows the history of sake barrels and barrel sake, with a focus on how sake barrels are made without the use of nails or adhesives.
