‘Meshiya’ is a midnight diner open from midnight until the following morning. The only beverage they have is beer, sake, and shochu, and the food menu depends on the ingredients they have available that day. Scenes of people sitting at the counter, regardless of their age or status, and talking about their daily lives while drinking their favorite sake, indicate the significant role that bars have in Japan. The original work is a manga of the same title produced by Abe Yarou. This manga was adapted into a TV drama and film in Japan with a remake for foreign audiences.
