Shinsen Meishu Sugoroku

A sugoroku (board game) style advertisement which was common in the Edo period advertising a popular brand. The game starts at ‘furidashi’ (the start) on the bottom right, heading towards ‘noshi’ (Japanese gift tag) in the center. The Japanese lanterns saying ‘kudarisakadonya’ and ‘Jimawarisakadonya’ indicate that this game is likely to have been published by a sake dealer in Edo. The ‘noshi’ drawn here is intended as a present from ‘Hirookaya Kosuke’ to ‘children’.
