Drinking Competition
Cherry blossom viewing at Gotenyama (west of today’s Shinagawa Station), which was one of the most famous cherry blossom spots in Edo. After the arrival of American ships in the bay, a part of the hill was scraped off to build a battery. The act of spreading out tatami mats on the ground and enjoying food and sake under the cherry trees has remained unchanged even today.
