Ryukyu glass is said to have begun around 1900, when glass artisans from Kagoshima brought their techniques to Okinawa. After World War II, amid material shortages, discarded beer and cola bottles were reused as raw materials, giving rise to its characteristic air bubbles and vivid colors.
