Nambu ironware traces its origins to iron craftsmanship in the Oshu region dating back to the Heian period (794-1185), as well as to the former Nambu feudal domain. In 1975, it was designated a Traditional Craft by the Minister of International Trade and Industry. While highly regarded as a traditional craft, it is also cherished as an everyday household item.
