Flourishing as an official kiln of the Sanada clan’s castle town, Matsushiro ware later declined due to competition from cheaper wares such as Imari and Seto. It was revived in 1972 after nearly 180 years. Its bluish clay body and boldly flowing blue-green glazes are distinctive features.
