Masu

Masu
Artist: Unknown

Originally, a masu was a wooden measuring box used to measure rice or sake. It was also used as a vessel for offerings to deities and thus came to be regarded as an auspicious object. Today, sake is sometimes served directly in a masu or in a glass placed inside it.
