Kutani Ware “Honkin Sansui” (Ishikawa)
Artist: Unknown
Kutani ware, a brilliantly colored porcelain produced in southern Ishikawa, began in the mid-17th century when techniques learned in Arita were brought back to the region. The Honkin Nishiki-e technique features delicate underdrawings of landscapes, figures, and flowers, layered with rich pigments, fired once, then adorned with gold and fired again to achieve an elegant and luxurious finish.
