Akahada Ware

Akahada Ware(Nara)
Artist: Unknown

Established in the Momoyama period under the patronage of Toyotomi Hidenaga, Akahada ware is distinguished by the warm reddish hue of its clay body, from which it takes its name. Vessels are typically finished with a soft, milky-white Hagi glaze and adorned with Nara-e paintings. These decorative motifs are believed to derive from patterns found on the pedestal of the Great Buddha at Todaiji Temple, reflecting the region’s deep historical and cultural heritage.
