“Shusse Sakaba no Yurai” “Baiyaku Kanamono Shirui” “Shitabata” “Onishi Shoten”

This ‘hikifuda’ portrays ‘the roshi (leaderless samurai) of Ako’ having a drink right before the Ako vendetta. The samurai made the sake bar incredibly popular as a ‘lucky place’ as they succeeded in achieving revenge after boosting morale by having a drink here. It was published by ‘Onishi Shoten: the seller of medicine, hardware, and paper’, and it is unknown whether or not they sold sake. It was probably popular as a lucky charm for business prosperity as there are also other hikifuda of the same design published by other stores.
