Kasama Ware(Ibaraki)
Artist: Unknown
Founded in the mid-Edo period (18th century) by potters invited from Shigaraki in Omi (today’s Shiga Prefecture), Kasama ware uses iron-rich “gairome” clay to create durable ceramics. From jars and mortars to large-scale art pieces, it produces a wide variety of works and stands alongside Mashiko as a major ceramic center in the Kanto region.
