“Revived Shakudani Stone: The Brilliance of Fukui” Series(Fukui)
Produced by: Fukui Blue Co., Ltd.
Shakudani stone, a volcanic tuff used in Fukui since the Kofun period (3rd–6th century), is also known as “blue stone” because it turns deep blue when moistened. Although it is no longer quarried today, reclaimed Shakudani stone discovered in old traditional houses has been collected and carefully repurposed into vessels. This sake ware is part of the “Revived Shakudani Stone: The Brilliance of Fukui” series, breathing new life into a historic local material.
