Artist: Unknown

Hagi ware began in the early Edo period (17th century) when Korean potters established official kilns in the castle town of the Mori clan. Designated an Important Intangible Cultural Property in 1957, it is especially renowned for tea utensils. Its characteristics include kannyu (fine crackle patterns in the glaze) and nanabake or “seven transformations”, referring to the way its appearance deepens with use.
