“Yachimun” means pottery in the Okinawan language and is characterized by its rounded forms and distinctive painted decoration. Its origins date back approximately 6,600 years. Through maritime trade with surrounding regions, techniques advanced, and in the 17th century, Korean potters invited from Satsuma (today’s Kagoshima) laid the foundation for what is now known as yachimun.
